Seniors

A brilliant second term in poor conditions has set up the Daylesford Jayco Bulldogs second win of the season, belting 2008 finalists Waubra by ten goals.

On a very wet and windy day at Jayco Oval, the Bulldogs played hard, uncompromising footy and broke the game open in the second term. They booted an amazing eight goals for the term, which made it near impossible for Waubra to come back.

Under 18 Results- Daylesford Vs Waubra

The Bulldogs U/18s played host to Waubra on Sunday in conditions that were more accustomed to mid July, but this did not stop the relentless selfless hard running, share the ball at all costs type of play that this team displayed again to record another huge win over a bigger and more mature opponent. Coach Steve Cowan, was extremely pleased with the fact that we had eleven individual goal scorers, with no one player outstanding but a whole team contributing to a great Team win. The team welcomed back Zac Tisdale from the seniors and this allowed Matty Bolton the luxury of spending more time up forward, this resulted in many of our talented young forwards being able to hold their positions and create a variety of options for the countless forward entry’s from our hard running midfield. Our hardnosed backline was again superbly led by Pat Helper, who combined brilliantly with the best player on the ground in Darcy Shewell, who was nothing short of magnificent in marking everything that came his way and turned defense into attack with the silky brilliance of Paddy Dwyer Hayden Cowan and Pat Murray and the hard nosed play of Paddy McGrath Lester and Tom Powell across the middle were complimented by some good forward work by Sebastian Walsh, Angus Armstrong and Elliot Eyles. Overall this was a very pleasing performance, in that once again the boys showed a very good work ethic, played to instructions but more important they shared the ball around  having the confidence in each other that comes from a team that enjoys playing for the team and this has showed with the end result. The team is not getting ahead of itself and the real test will come next week when we venture over to Bungaree to play what some people believe to be the yardstick of underage footy in reigning premiers Bungaree, Go Doggies.

Under 15 Report

Daylesford Bulldogs U/15 travelled over to Buninyong for their first game of the season on Saturday, where the boys put up a great performance for three quarters, only to be run over the top of in the last quarter. This was due mainly from the fact that we were only able to run out with 16 players and this took its toll on the boys as Buninyong were able to work their way back into the game and with the vast space of this huge ground, they were able to grind out a good win over our very gallant and brave Bulldogs. The boys started the game in a blaze having the first goal on the board within 2 minutes due to some strong forward play from Nathan Cummings who kicked two goals in the quarter, where we dominated the play in this quarter we also squandered many opportunities  to set the game up and with two boys short we needed to  this as early as possible.Buninyong were able to work their way back into the game in the second quarter where at half time we were down by one point, but after a third quarter where we kicked another two goals Buninyong were able better this with three goals and they then ran over the top of us in the last quarter. This was a great effort from the boys never giving up everyone trying their best, with some great performances fro Finn Annscombe, Josh Clough and Xavier Walsh in the midfield,          Sam Marshall Ted Cooper and Jamie Harte down back and Nathan Cummings up forward.

Scores : Daylesford  4  -  5  = 29  L    Buninyong  9  -  6  = 60

Goals  : N. Cummings  3,  W. Austin/King 1.

Best   : Finn Anscombe, Josh Clough Jamie Harte Xavier Walsh Sam Marshall Nath Cummings.

 Under 18 Report

The Bulldogs U/18 were very keen to finally get at onto the ground for season 2009 and what better way to start the year playing last year’s runners up in Buninyong. What transpired in the first quarter was nothing short of breathtaking , with some of the best team orientated football you will ever see with practically every player contributing which resulted in an amazing 8 goal quarter. This was to set up the game, which Buninyong were able to halt the onslaught to a degree by placing two extra players in our backline for the rest of the game  but our boys class and willingness to use each other we were able to record a huge win. The team seems to be  a very well balanced group one that is prepared to do the team stuff rather than go for individual glory, we saw many acts of unselfish play and it was evident that from a long preseason they followed their coaches instructions to a tee. If this performance is an indication of this groups resolve then we can expect a good year from what is a very young group of players .

Scores :  Daylesford  19  .  16 .  130  D    Buninyong  0  .0  .0
