The Bulldogs U/18s played host to Waubra on Sunday in conditions that were more accustomed to mid July, but this did not stop the relentless selfless hard running, share the ball at all costs type of play that this team displayed again to record another huge win over a bigger and more mature opponent. Coach Steve Cowan, was extremely pleased with the fact that we had eleven individual goal scorers, with no one player outstanding but a whole team contributing to a great Team win. The team welcomed back Zac Tisdale from the seniors and this allowed Matty Bolton the luxury of spending more time up forward, this resulted in many of our talented young forwards being able to hold their positions and create a variety of options for the countless forward entry’s from our hard running midfield. Our hardnosed backline was again superbly led by Pat Helper, who combined brilliantly with the best player on the ground in Darcy Shewell, who was nothing short of magnificent in marking everything that came his way and turned defense into attack with the silky brilliance of Paddy Dwyer Hayden Cowan and Pat Murray and the hard nosed play of Paddy McGrath Lester and Tom Powell across the middle were complimented by some good forward work by Sebastian Walsh, Angus Armstrong and Elliot Eyles. Overall this was a very pleasing performance, in that once again the boys showed a very good work ethic, played to instructions but more important they shared the ball around having the confidence in each other that comes from a team that enjoys playing for the team and this has showed with the end result. The team is not getting ahead of itself and the real test will come next week when we venture over to Bungaree to play what some people believe to be the yardstick of underage footy in reigning premiers Bungaree, Go Doggies.
