JUNIOR NETBALL:

Daylesford Football Netball Clubs under 13’s and under 15’s welcomed Gordon to Victoria Park, Daylesford for our Round 6 clash.

The Under 13’s fought hard and played four consistent quarters of netball. Although the girls were unable to come away with a win they were able to take many positives from the game. Izzy Vanzetta played another fantastic game whilst Ally Pyers and Maddy Johns attacked hard and played four good quarters, however, the wind proved to be their toughest opponent of the day.

The Under 15’s fought hard and played a strong first half of netball. The windy conditions got to the girls and Gordon proved to be a very tough opponent running away with the game in the second half. Kara Cooper stepped up to play her best game for the season, whilst Emma Thompson and Laura Fishman really found their feet in defence.

Although both teams went down on the day the girls will learn from the game and continue to develop their skills at training. We are already looking forward to our next game against Ballan on Saturday.

B GRADE NETBALL:

Daylesford Football Netball Club B grade netballers took to the court against Gordon on Saturday. In windy conditions the girls played a great game to come off with a win, 45 to 25. Carol Veit had a fantastic game, putting in a best on court performance in centre, attacking strongly and getting a hand to many valuable intercepts. Olivia Belcher and Shanya Beattie worked well together in goals, while our defenders worked hard to implement strategies practised at training and shut down many of Gordon’s attacking plays. Hopefully the girls can continue their winning form when they travel to take on Ballan at Ballan next week. Go Doggies!

Under 15 Bulldogs

The Bulldogs U/15s played host to Gordon on Saturday in very windy conditions that made scoring extremely difficult. Again the boys ran out short on numbers after injuries and unavailability but this did not deter them in any way shape or form where they were 100% committed from the first bounce where we were able to restrict Gordon to a manageable score in the first quarter when they had first use of the howling breeze. The second quarter started at breakneck pace where we peppered the goals early but were unable to score a major, but this did not flatten the boys as they played a superb last half keeping Gordon goalless in the third quarter when kicking with the wind and our boys came home hard in the last, kicking two superb goals. This was clearly our best performance for the year as the boys are starting to believe in each other and sharing the ball around and a win is not far away. Good performances on the day were Xavier Walsh with silky foot skills, Finn Annscombe with his hard running, Jacob Paddon covered more ground than any player and won plenty of the ball, Ted Cooper either up forward or down back was very strong and Sam Marshall and Josh Clough put in their regular hard working determined efforts. Also very pleasing to listen to and see the support for the boys by Families and Supporters, I know the boys appreciate it ,so thank you and keep it up, Go Doggies.

Daylesford  2  4   16   Gordon   6  21   57

Goals :  Finn Annscombe 1  Xavier Walsh  1

Best : X. Walsh F. Annscombe, J. Paddon, T. Cooper, Josh Clough, S. Marshall

Under 18 Bulldogs

The Under 18 Bulldogs started slowly kicking with the strong wind and Gordon surprised them early registering the first major. By mid way through the quarter it was all one way traffic with the Bulldogs able to dominate across the park despite the determined efforts of the gallant Gordon outfit. Paddy Dwyer was everywhere in a best on ground performance and was outstanding in his second and third efforts around the ball. Jesse Browne picked up some good form and used the ball well with some creative play.  Once Daylesford settled into their team oriented game plan they moved the ball fluently with plenty of unselfish play. Andrew Cummings again had a powerful game in the forward line and fleet footed wingman Spencer Alexander was busy in attack and defence. Captain McGrath-Lester dominated the centre, clearing effectively with his long hand ball and Tom Powell and Lewis Ingham across half back made the going tough for the Gordon attack. Onballers Cowan and Eyles were ruthless around the packs and Matty Bolton again was influential in a good team win.

Score:  Daylesford   25.16. 166 def Gordon 2. 0.  12

Best: P Dwyer, J Browne, M Bolton, P McGrath-Lester, E Eyles, H. Cowan, L Ingham

Round 5: Junior Netball Report

Daylesford Football Netball Clubs under 13 & 15 netballers took on Springbank on Saturday. In less than desirable conditions the girls played two impressive games against stronger sides.

The under 13’s had a tough day on the court, but continued to work on the skills they have been practicing in training. Maddy Johns and Ally Pyers worked well together in goals, while Jayme Kew played an excellent game in defence. Kyah Waters was exceptional all game, trying her hand at defence and proving herself as a valuable team player. Lizzy Courtney also proved to be an adaptable player, moving from her usual position into goals, and playing a great quarter.

The under 15’s were beaten but took the opportunity to work on their skills and put into practice some new tactics. First year players Emma Thompson and Sophie Shewell did well in defence, while Kelsey Mobbs also played a strong game, getting many intercepts and opening up some brilliant passages of play. Casey Newlan was fantastic in wing defence, getting her hands on many intercepts and lifting the teams spirit.

All the girls should be commended on their games, and we look forward to playing Gordon at home this Saturday.

Round 5: U15 & U18 Football Report

The Bulldogs U/15s travelled to wind swiped Springbank on Saturday and were confronted with freezing conditions and a very well drilled opposition where we saw the boys appear as if they were still half asleep in the first half but after a roasting from coach Wayne, the boys performed much better in the second with Alex Stein capping off a good day with a superb soccer type goal in the third quarter. Good performances were put in by Finn Anscombe who literally ran himself into the ground in a tireless effort, he was supported by fellow midfielder in Xavier Walsh whom like Finn never stopped trying, Nathan Cummings was nothing short of brilliant when moved into the ruck and our backline was held together by Sam Marshall who was like a rock all game and Alex Evagora was strong and desperate. Although the boys were soundly beaten now that our numbers are swelling I think the confidence will return to this group and a win is not far away, but more important is that we stick together get behind  Wayne and continue to improve and enjoy each other’s company, have a bit of fun and the results will come.

Daylesford  1  0  6    L    Springbank  11  10  76

Goals  A. Stein  1

Best   F. Annscombe, N. Cummings, X. Walsh, S. Marshall, A. Stein, Alex Evagora

Under 18′s

The Bulldogs came up against a determined Springbank outfit  and struggled to come away with the win in the wintry conditions.  On a day when some of the older players lost their way, it was up to the younger brigade to step up with the likes of Sebastian Walsh and Max Risstrom  putting in terrific efforts. In a low scoring affair, Springbank got out to an early lead before the Bulldogs gradually hauled them in. In an exciting final quarter, Springbank goaled twice to equal the scores and were unlucky not to hit the lead but for a desperate lunge on the goal-line by Darcey Shewell.  Jesse Browne was holding his position well on the wing and was able to bomb one into Matty Bolton to kick the sealer late in the quarter.  Paddy Dwyer’s leadership and determination was again on show.  Under pressure and with the game plan blown out the window, it was a credit to the boys to fight it out and still come away with the win.

 Score:  Daylesford   4. 7. 31 def   Springbank 4. 5. 29

Goals: M Bolton 1, H Cowan 1, T Powell, S. Walsh

Best: S Walsh, P Dwyer, J Browne, M Risstrom, P McGrath-Lester, E Eyles.

Seniors

The Daylesford Jayco Bulldogs have suffered their first loss of the season, being thrashed at the hands of Learmonth by 62 points.

The game was played using a pink football to help raise awareness for breast cancer on a glorious day, where the only nuisance was a strong wind which caused havoc at times throughout the day.

Daylesford got off to the start they were after, kicking their first through Luke Beattie ten minutes into the opening term. Beattie then followed up minutes later kicking another which pumped up the side as they looked to run away from Learmonth.
