UNDER 18’s

The U/18 Bulldogs outclassed  the visiting Buninyong team in a  consistent four quarter team effort. Matty Bolton had a day out collecting a swag of possessions. The win again was orchestrated through some strong play through the midfield with Elliot Eyles starting strongly.  Patrick Murray  kicked impressively and picked up six goals while Sebastian Walsh backed himself and was rewarded with five. Jesse Browne played solidly being  a nuisance in and around the packs. Without players to call on off the bench, it was a credit to the players out on the paddock to maintain their focus and run the game out.

UNDER 15’s

The Daylesford Bulldogs U/15s played hosts to Buninyong on Saturday and again we were unable to field a full team (15), and with the side appearing flat before the game this feeling flowed onto the ground where  we started sluggishly but we then came out firing in the second quarter where we kicked  two goals to put the game in balance, but we were unable to continue with this good play and Buninyong with their extra numbers prevailed. The season has been a long and draining affair for the kids but positives continue to evolve from this and one of those is the form of Sam Marshall, whom again on Saturday was brilliant down back, his was well supported by Maggie Lowe, Jaycob Paddon was superb all day, Alex Stein looks to have found his spot across half back, Aaron Faulkhead another good game in the ruck, along with first year players in Ollie Hadingham John Beveridge and little pocket dynamo in Fraser Lowe, all is not lost and we look to finish off the year on a good note to build for next year.

A special mention must go to Ted Cooper, who despite injuring his knee quite badly last week put his hand up to play up forward knowing that we were going to short on numbers. This just typifies that attitude we are trying to develop in our team, that it’s not always about winning but knowing that you are contributing to the team in many different facets and you enjoy playing with your mates an club.

Round 14 of the Central Highlands League saw Daylesford Junior Netballers play host to Bunnigyong. This would be the second time the teams would meet for the season and Daylesford were keen to show Bunningyong just how much they had improved.
In Round One of the season the Daylesford under 13 netballers beat a fast finishing Bunningyong by 8 goals, Daylesford girls were keen to repeat this outcome but with an even better margine. With a full team of 12, the girls were raring to go, Captain Kyah Waters lead from the front in attack, whilst Ally Pyers played a fantastic game in goals. It was a fantastic team game with every player contributing, the girls went on to win 12 to 3 playing a fantastic team game.
The under 15¹s girls had a much tougher battle on their hands with Bunniyong being one of the top teams. The girls played fantastically and worked hard as a team encouraging one another at every opportunity. Laura Fishman and Casey Newlan played a great game in defence. The girls went down but should be proud of the pressure the put Bunningyong under. Both teams look forward to playing Waubra this Saturday.

Daylesford junior netballers welcomed Hepburn to Victoria Park. This   week the under 13’s played two games, which gave some of the younger   girls a chance to play a full game and try some new positions.
The first game was played in fantastic spirit from both teams and   supporters. Katie Balharrie played her best game of the season trying   her hand in defence and thriving, whilst in only her second game this   season Lily Kilborne played fantasticly.
The second under 13 game was a lot closer and with five minutes left   their was only 2 goals in it. Izzy Vanzetta again showed her   dominance, whilst Ally Pyers and Maddy Johns showed of some sneaky play.
The under 15 girls had a very tough battle on their hands, however,   they played as a team and set individual goals that they achieved.   Kelsey Mobbs moved into goals and played a fantastic game whilst   Shyann Waters moved into centred and played very well.
Hepburn ran out winners in all games, however our girls should be   proud of their efforts and improvements this season. Both teams   should be commended on the way they played the game and thank you to   all those who came to watch.

UNDER 15’S

The Bulldogs U/15s were at home to our cross town rivals in Hepburn and although we were able to field a full team for only the second time for the season we were unable to play accordingly and were soundly beaten. One of the good stories to come out of our tough year has been the development  of Aaron Faulkhead who again on Saturday showed that he has the makings to be a very good ruckmen, where he is now gaining in confidence and his performance on Saturday was evidence of that. He was well supported by our tireless hard working hard running never give up captain in Josh Clough, who was just superb, Maggie Lowe has been a revelation down back and along with Alex Stein who was moved down back this week both played very good games. The season is drawing to a close but we are already building for next year and beyond so let’s all continue to get along to training listen and respect our coach and we will be a stronger team for this.

UNDER 18’s

The top of the table clash between Daylesford and Hepburn in the U /18 competition was an intense battle living up to all expectations.  Daylesford had the opportunity to blow the game apart with a blistering opening quarter with Elliot Eyles moving the ball swiftly out of the centre in a powerhouse display.  Matty Bolton was inspirational in the ruck and around the ground. The Bulldogs back three were terrific in turning around the Burras attack as the ball was repeatedly swept back up the ground. James Clough showed great composure and poise to compliment the rock solid defence of Shewell and Helper.  Meanwhile the scrambling Hepburn defence contributed to Daylesford kicking point after point before they were able to score a major. The second quarter saw Daylesford again dominate around the ground without getting any real advantage on the scoreboard.  Hepburn began to pile on the pressure through the third quarter and clawed their way back into the game to set up a tense final quarter. Daylesford, in a terrific team effort, were able to withstand the onslaught to finally run out victors.

The under 15 girls were next to take to the court, prior to this game starting the temperature dropped about 3 degrees and the rain started to pour. The girls worked hard and played a fantastic team game, encouraging each other at every opportunity. Kara Cooper ran hard all game, whilst Emma Thompson played fantastically in defence. The girls fought hard but Creswick handled the weather better. The girls look forward to playing Hepburn this Saturday.

Under 15’s

On Saturday the kids experienced probably the worst conditions they have encountered in their short football lives to date when we ventured over to Creswick and were greeted with a howling wind, freezing cold driving rain and a very heavy and wet ground. All this did not have an adverse affect on the kids as they performed superbly in the first quarter defending gallantly against the wind and in doing so kept Creswick goalless. This was to be our only joy for the rest of the game as Creswick slowly took over and continually surged forward where they blew the game apart in the third kicking a match winning 5 goals. The kids to their credit never stopped trying and having a couple short did not help, but they  were brave to the end in atrocious conditions. This was a bit of a downer after last week’s first win, but this is a learning curve for the team and we will better for the experience. One of the stories for the year is the form of young Jaycob Paddon, who just continues to get better week in week out, his performance again showed that he is a very smart footballer and one who knows the importance of using the ball, a welcome return this week by two of our well performed back men in Sam Marshall and Ted Cooper whom along with the intimidating Maggie Lowe were superb down back. Nathan Cummings is showing how much he has been missed with another strong performance and our usual hard working and hard running performance again from Josh Clough and Xavier Walsh in the middle. This week we play host to our neighbors down the road and we would like to see a big crowd to support this lovely bunch of kids, GO DOGGIES!!!!

The bulldogs travelled to Creswick and earned a gutsy win in very wet and windy conditions. Daylesford outscored the opposition kicking into the wind in the first quarter with more direct attack on goal. As the game progressed the ball became heavier, this allowed Seb Walsh and Elliot Eyles to show their wet weather skills. The back line held firm lead by Tom Grisdale and Pat Helper. Across the centre Paddy Mcgrath-Lester and Darcy Shewell were involved in everything, upforward Zac Tisdale provided a good target but the horrible conditions made marking very difficult.

 Best: E.Eyles, P.McGrath-Lester, S.Walsh, D.Shewell, T.Grisdale, M.Bolton

Under 15 Report

Well it was absolutely wonderful to see a group of kids come together with a never say die attitude a refusal to give in only to be rewarded  for their effort in recording their first win for the season against a gallant Beaufort at home on Saturday. The team never stopped trying all day and even though we trailed Beaufort for the first three quarters, and being down by two goals at three quarter time did not deter the kids at all and we came barnstorming home in the last quarter to record a superb team orientated 8 point win. You could feel the tension in the last quarter as our loyal group of Mums and Dads along with a ground swell of support from our great club sensed that we were on the verge of recording a magnificent win, but you didn’t detect any nerves from every player out on the ground, as they just ran harder tackled stronger and lifted their desperation to another level to go on and record a memorable win.

It just goes to show that when you are down it doesn’t mean you give in and take the easy option, you dig deep tough it out stick together and your just deserves will come, as they did on Saturday, WELL DONE TEAM YOU DID YOURSELVES PROUD.

It was such a great team effort it was hard to pick a stand out, but special mention must go to Alex Evagora up forward who was as strong as an ox, who gave us a target and never let us down kicking two superb goals. Timmy Winzar was absolutely fearless across half back with his straight ahead style where he split open packs and created spillage for the very dangerous Jaycob Paddon and Liam Murray whom both carved up the opposition with their silky skills. Nathan Cummings was a welcome return from injury and he gave the team a lot of confidence with some strong play, but it was in the middle where we won this game with the relentless hard running from our wonderful skipper in Josh Clough his creative hard working lieutenant in Xavier Walsh and that little dynamo in Joel Cowan who absolutely thrived in the conditions. Overall this was a truly magnificent effort and everyone at the club was just so thrilled to see not only the performance but the joy on the faces of all the kids was something special.

Under 18 Report

The u 18 Bulldogs came away with a good win at home in the mud against Beaufort. In the difficult conditions the younger brigade stepped  forward with Seb Walsh  taking some excellent grabs and finishing well. James Clough and Brendan Boyd also had solid games. With Pat Murray and Pat Helper  dominating in the back half they were able to push the ball back up through the centre. Tom Powell handled the conditions well and together with the other onballers worked hard to get some go forward.  The tall timber in Bolton and Tisdale were too strong up forward.
